Irish Cultural Center
After 15 long years in the making, the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley opened in July 2019. The fledgling center offers numerous educational and entertaining programs and boasts an authentic Irish pub downstairs.
In March 2020, I created an email newsletter for the center, installing opt-in forms on the website, adding blog content, and promoting the newsletter on social media and through Eventbrite emails.
The first issue scored a whopping 68% open rate and continues to be opened at a 40 to 50% rate. The list grows by 25 to 50 subscribers a month, and event ticket sales jump in the hours following the newsletter's delivery.
Utica Food Pantry
The Utica Food Pantry has faithfully served those most in need in Utica since 1982.
In 2020, they decided to expand their fundraising options by launching an email newsletter. I added opt-in forms to their website, created a graphic to promote sign-ups on social media, and designed and wrote the first issue.
We saw a 40% open rate, well above the average for nonprofits, and a surge in donations the day after it was delivered.
I play with an Irish session band called Craobh Dugan and help them out with publicity. In 2018 I started an email newsletter to keep fans up to date on our events and gigs and to help sell our CD.
Open rates have always been between 40 and 60%.
